Check In 3.0 Beta Released
We're excited to announce a beta version of our new check in system. While the interface remains primarily the same, this update is designed to fix two critical areas:
1. Check in large lists of people on mobile devices
Our current version slows down significantly if large lists of people are loaded into the check in page. This problem is magnified if the check in device is less powerful, such as a smartphone or tablet (compared to a laptop or desktop). This update fixes this by putting the burden of filtering on the server rather than on the client's device. This means an iPhone, Android tablet, or even a Kindle should be capable of checking in people from a list of thousands. Note that this is in effect only if the check in page is in "Search Mode" rather than "List Mode".
2. Printing Labels without NPAPI Support
NPAPI has been used for years to allow browsers to perform advanced features - one of which includes printing a name tag when someone is checked into Breeze. Google announced that they are discontinuing NPAPI support for reasons you can read about here. In September Google will be updating Chrome to a version that no longer supports NPAPI. As a result, we're updating our code to no longer depend on NPAPI support. This beta release of check in is no longer dependent on NPAPI.
While FireFox, Safari, and Internet Explorer do not need any updates, if you'd like to continue printing from Chrome once Google rolls out this update, you'll need a few things:
Again, if you're using FireFox, Safari, or Internet Explorer, you do not need to change anything - this only pertains to the Chrome browser.
You can access the new beta version of check in by:
Navigating to the "Events" section and clicking the calendar. Then click the beta link beneath the normal link to load the new version. Below is a screenshot showing what you should see:
We'd love for you to give it a try and if you notice anything that looks off, doesn't work as expected, or if your computer catches on fire, let us know. Okay... your computer probably won't catch on fire, but at least the other two :).
We'd love to show you what we built!
